Going Down Under

Journal Entry: Fri Apr 4, 2008, 8:58 PM

I don't exactly know how I'm going to manage to get to Australia. I just know that I have to go sometime this year in order to change my life. No matter what, I expect that it will be a harrowing experience, and I will only really make it by the skin of my teeth, most of which has already been shorn off by other harrowing experiences.

I've decided that people can help me. I know, aren't I generous for allowing this? You see, I have a talent, and feel I must exploit it in order to get to my destiny. I'm deadly serious about this. Thousands of dollars will be necessary for this trip. Since it's what (barely) pays my living expenses, money made in my day job is simply not enough to send me away in a timely fashion. Rather than take a second, part-time job at a fast food joint, making my current state that much less bearable, I'd rather draw my way across the Pacific.

So, in exchange for $20, I will give you art for your wall. No frills, no frames, just an envelope from the U.S. Postal Service containing a piece of art on a 9"x12" piece of paper. If you're outside the U.S., I'm afraid the price will have to be $30 to adequately cover shipping.

There are two ways we can do this:

Option One would be that you request I draw something specific, and I do so.

Option Two would be that you make no request, and the work you receive is a surprise.

Obviously, I find the possibilities of Option Two much more interesting, but I'm a professional (or, at least, once was long ago) and am willing to draw just about anything to get a crisp Andrew deposited to my Travel Fund.

A few thoughts.

First, expect a level of quality comparable to that seen in my gallery. Don't think for a minute that I'm going to be slinging out five minute sketches for your money. I spend hours on a given drawing, and that will not change. You will get a good show for your buck!

Second, I do scenes. You want your character drawn? Great, but expect that character will be placed in a setting, possibly committing an act. I don't draw people floating listlessly in negative space.

Third, the more freedom you give me, the better it will be for you. Don't think for a second that I'll be changing my style or method, and don't think for a second that $20 is going to get you endless revisions. I'm not twelve. I know what my time is worth, and based on that knowledge, I also know that I'm offering my services at a rate that leaves me woefully underpaid. It's for a good cause, so I'm happy and willing. Just keep in mind that if you give me some freedom to enjoy my own work, it will be positively reflected in the end product. I promise.

Fourth, I don't know if this is even a good idea, but I'm already in full-blown panic mode about how I'm going to fund this trip, so anything will help. I guess what I'm getting at, here, is that making thousands of dollars, $20 at a time, is going to be a lot of work, and it will only happen if people decide to employ me. I feel like my work on your wall is worth the cost of a large pizza and a couple of Cokes, but what do I know? What I do know is that I'm crazy enough to try this, and, as scared as this makes me, I need for this to be a successful endeavor. The path of my future depends on it.

So, I guess that's it. If interested, feel free to contact me through the normal channels. If feeling generous, feel free to spread the word. The more work I get, the better off I'll be!

Thanks.

P.S. The method of transaction will be as follows:
You contact me, and I respond. If you want an Option One, you tell me what you want. Then, I draw. When I'm done, I'll contact you and tell you I'm done. If you ordered an Option One, I'll send you a scan of the work. If you ordered an Option Two, a scan would ruin the surprise, so maybe just a little detail to entice you and prove that I have product waiting for you. Then, if all is well, you send me the payment via check, money order, cash, or PayPal. Once the payment is received, I send you the artwork in the mail. Simple.

I'm selling artwork. Actual, physical original artwork for you to hang on your wall! Today's offers are:

All artwork will be matted and framed, and goes for $60, plus shipping costs. Note me if interested.

Thanks for the add and comments. I want to take what I have further, and so one thing is asking questions like that to figure out a clearer purpose that's worth pursuing. If that made sense...
